Graduation

Written by Gabriel Gonzalez

[This is an excerpt from a script I've been working on for quite a while. The premise is of a young boy given a fresh start to revitalize himself in a new environment-- college. Justin along with his new friends have to find themselves in this new place. A story filled with adventures, sorrow, and love, Graduation is a slice of life coming of age story that many can relate to.]

EXT. FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY

We Are The Champions by Queen is blasting from speakers as there's a loud hum of cheering and clapping. Confetti rains down on the students.

Graduation caps are being flung in the air. JUSTIN, 17, is getting up from his seat. Eagerly scanning through the bleachers.

The teachers are ushering the students towards the end of the field to meet with their family. A few friend groups meet up for one last photo or to share their tears.

Justin is walking looking around at all the other students. There's a couple of waves towards his directions. Few people pushing past him to go meet with others.

The gates open and everyone meet with their respective group. Parents hugging their children, and taking pictures. Still looking through the crowd, searching.

Justin weaves his way through the crowd, and puts his phone to his ear.

JUSTIN

Hey. Where are you guys at?

He stops in his tracks

JUSTIN (cont'd)

Parking lot? Okay.

EXT. PARKING LOT - LATER

Justin is one of the few people making their way out of the field. He scans around the lot.

In the distance there is someone waving their arms standing next to a car.

O.S.

Over here! Hurry let's beat the traffic!

Justin picks up his pace, before reaching the car. Standing next to his car is an older man, around 60.

JUSTIN

Hey, gramps.

Justin gives GRANDPA a big hug. Holding on to Justin tight.

2.

GRANDPA

Congrats mijo. Let's hurry and scat.

Looking through into the car. Justin makes his way to the passenger side.

JUSTIN

 Where's everyone at?

Grandpa gets into the car slamming the door shut. Justin follows.

INT. CAR

GRANDPA

They're all waiting for you at the house. Your sister wasn't feeling great so they took her home.

Justin staring at his hands, fidgeting with them.

JUSTIN

That makes sense. Don't want anyone getting too sick I guess.

Grandpa glances over to Justin, letting out a soft sigh before driving off.
